A killer player from the early days of American boutique guitar building, this 1980 Hamer Special is freshly refretted, professionally set up, and ready for another few decades of playing.
The Special was one of the guitars that helped establish Hamer's reputation for taking classic American guitar design and building it to an exceptionally high standard. This example features a double-cutaway mahogany body with a flame maple flat top, finished in its original Transparent Amber, along with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard.
A pair of original DiMarzio humbuckers provide the muscle these early Hamers are known for, with plenty of output, clarity, and vintage character. The electronics and hardware remain original as well, aside from a replaced set of locking strap buttons.
Most importantly, we've just given this guitar a complete professional refret here at NHP Guitars, performed by our in-house technician Jordan. The guitar was then fully set up and dialed in, making this a vintage instrument you can buy to actually play rather than immediately budgeting for fretwork. The new frets feel fantastic and give this Hamer a fresh lease on life.
Cosmetically, the guitar is in Good vintage condition with honest play wear and fine lacquer checking throughout. There are no cracks, breaks, or structural repairs. We haven't attempted to hide its age—this is a 46-year-old guitar that has been played and enjoyed, and it wears that history well. Please see all photos for the best representation of its condition.
The original Hamer hardshell case is included. The case shows considerable wear from age and use but remains functional.
